My
Mother#*!^%#!
College Life
Playwright

What’s in the minds and hearts of college students today? In 40 monologues and a few choruses, this multi-cultural ensemble questions everything they encounter: social justice and gender identity, self-awareness and relationship boundaries, future prospects and roommate etiquette. What emerges is a humorous and heartbreaking portrait of a new generation struggling with higher ed’s promise of “personal transformation.”

Conceived by Jon Jory, created by Brooke Jennett and Michael Bigelow Dixon, and written by these talented playwrights: Janet Allard, Joseph Michael Bahena, Erica Beimesche, Brayden Bergman, Katie Brewer-Calvert, Mattie Bruton, Sophia Burke, Kamilah Bush, Justin Yu-Young Chien, Adam Denoyer, Briana Garcia, Kathryn R. Gillespie, Kaitlin Haggard, Maya Hamer, Michael A.

My Mother#*!^%#! College Life received its world premiere production at Transylvania University in March 2017. The anthology play is published by Dramatic Publishing. Two of my monologues are featured.

Changes
Violinist

Changes is a music album from Cincinnati band Okay Lindon, distributed by Poptek Records:

"The fourth full-length from Okay Lindon, 'Changes' again features the continuously great songwriting of Dustin Smith yet also signifies a different sound than Okay Lindon is known for. Does Cincinnati, Ohio now evoke Greenwich Village from decades past? Okay Lindon will make you dream so, trading in electric guitars for a 12-string acoustic, effect pedals for an accordion and violin, drums for bongos. The 'Changes' are very welcome when they end up so melodic."

Cleveland Play House
Cleveland Play House
Marketing Apprentice

I was a marketing apprentice for the 2016 - 2017 season at Cleveland Play House (CPH), America's first professional regional theatre and recipient of the 2015 Regional Theatre Tony Award.

CPH's Apprenticeship Program is a nine-month training program for young professionals that immerses recently graduated college & post-grad students in an intensive experience with a top-tier American theatre. Apprentices work with individual departments and top professionals in the field to gain practical experiences and skills working in a regional theatre.

I wrote copy, proofed print and digital materials, implemented marketing plans, posted listings, distributed collateral, took photos, updated the website, created ad schedules, organized the budget spreadsheet, and tracked analytics.

Theatre/
Practice

Assistant Editor

Theatre/Practice: The Online Journal of the Mid America Theatre Conference is a yearly peer-reviewed publication. Volumes 5, 6, and 7 are online now.

Jennifer Schlueter—editor of Theatre/Practice, Associate Chair for Curriculum, Lab Series Coordinator, and Associate Professor in the theatre department at OSU—asked me to be her assistant editor based on my writing merit and love of theatre.

I read, tracked, and assessed essay and play submissions; transcribed keynote addresses; drafted and edited emails and agreements; gathered and evaluated peer reviews; contacted authors; and compiled and formatted submissions for publication.

Creative Spot

Copywriting Intern

The Minor in Professional Writing facilitates a semester-long writing internship for its students.

I was a copywriting intern at Creative Spot, a Columbus advertising agency. As one of two copywriters in the building, I received assignments that a staff member would complete.

I wrote copy for ten clients in over 10 forms, including newsletters, postcards, sales flyers, press releases, direct mail, radio spots, blog posts, tweets, Facebook content, and letters. I ensured copy was clear, concise, informative, and free of grammatical errors while adhering to the client’s usual style and tone.

On a weekly basis, I wrote blog posts for Creative Spot and Shrivers Pharmacy (found under "Recent News"), as well as tweets for Creative Spot.

London Theatre Program 2014

I traveled to England in summer 2014 to take part in the London Theatre Program, hosted by The Ohio State University. I attended class every morning, explored the city in the afternoons, and saw a show almost every night.

Midway through the program, I acted as head of public relations (creating the website and press release) and stage manager (keeping track of every aspect of the show) for a workshop staging of Branches, a new play by graduate student Melonie Mazibuko. We rehearsed and performed at the Tristan Bates Theatre in London.

A few of us stayed a week longer to perform in The First Actress (directed by Lesley Ferris), both at Theatro Technis in London and Smallhythe Place's historic Barn Theatre—I played Fanny Abington and the Musician. This show was first performed at OSU in May for The First Actress Symposium.

Bus Stop
Bus Stop
Lab Series 10-Minute Play Festival, OSU

When the Theatre Department's inaugural 10-Minute Play Festival was announced in the lineup for autumn semester 2014, I wrote Bus Stop, I applied to have it produced, and it was accepted.  I cast the show, directed rehearsals, and created the sound design.

Henry V Dramagurgy
Henry V
Assistant Dramaturg / Music Director

Each year, the OSU Department of Theatre tours a Shakespeare production to local Columbus schools. From autumn 2014 to spring 2015, I was assistant dramaturg (under dramaturg Manuel Jacquez) for Henry V, directed by Kevin McClatchy.

I helped cut the script to a manageable touring length, compiled and edited a study guide for local teachers, and acted as in-house critic and historical/literary reference during rehearsals.

I was later asked to select songs to be played over the sound system and to arrange music the cast would perform live. Specifically, I taught the cast "Non Nobis," a Latin hymn; "Forgotten Years" by Midnight Oil; and a mashup I created of "Nearer My God to Thee" and Hozier's "Take Me to Church."
